ADVENT FUEL CELLS
DIGI-TRONIC
The world needs fuel cells that are resilient, suitable for mobility, multifuel-capable, and able to address small and large-scale power generation needs.
Until now, each fuel cell technology (whether PEM, SOFC, or other) could fulfill only one, or two of these needs.
Advent’s DIGI-TRONIC comes to answer the global need for a resilient, multifuel fuel-cell that can replace the diesel generator and the internal combustion engine. The “Any Fuel. Anywhere.” family of products brings fuel cells that can power a truck on a dry day in the Arizona desert (next-gen DIGI-TRONIC), a remote infrastructure power generator on a winter day in a Canadian forest (M-ZERØ), and a telecom back power system during the Philippines monsoon season (SereneU).
Based on Advent’s next-generation MEA and a unique engineering architecture Advent’s DIGI-TRONIC provide the ideal solution for the mobility and power generation markets.
A unique advantage that propels Advent’s growth today. We can deploy massively today before the green hydrogen infrastructure is available globally.
DIGI-TRONIC is a hydrogen-based fuel cell can use compressed green hydrogen, low-purity hydrogen (blue or LOHC), methanol (with focus on biomethanol and e-methanol as the fuels of choice), renewable natural gas, and most future eFuels that will power heavy-duty transportation.
Based on the high-temperature MEA architecture (which does not rely on water), DIGI-TRONIC operates at environment temperatures from -38ºC to 58ºC and extremely humid or dry conditions. The system is also resilient to any input impurities (hydrogen impurity, air impurity that will “kill” most PEM fuel cells. The MEA does not dry out in the desert nor does it freeze in the arctic.
Ideal for portable power and liquid fuel (methanol) options, and with a simple design that has no need for water management subsystems, DIGI-TRONIC, has superior weight advantages against any other solution (compared system-wide to include subsystems, and fuel storage, not just the fuel cell unit). DIGI-TRONIC is also developed as a “skateboard” form factor to be able to “plug and play” in the EV automotive space (supplementing batteries and working as a range extender.)
A patented power management and control design allows for a long lifetime and redundancy, allowing single cells to fail or underperform without bringing the whole system down.
Due to the high-temperature (80ºC to 240ºC) operation of the HT-PEM fuel cell, the system is inherently ideal for fast restart and superior heat management, removing the need for big radiators and complex workaround solutions required by typical PEM cells.
High-voltage (300V per 15kW fuel cell unit) low current operation is ideal for mobility (trucks, buses) applications from a power and control point of view, and the only way to have reliable mobility power.
DIGI-TRONIC is developed with an architecture that can be massively scaled from 50W to 1MW with the same design. The manufacturing, assembly, operation, and cooling issues are consistently addressed in these designs in a similar way.
Advent is a fuel cell company looking for partners in the Mobility and Power Generation space to license and codevelop the
DIGI-TRONIC technology. If you want to learn more and discuss a Joint Development Program email us at partnerwith@advent.energy.
